Zambia expected to record a positive outlook in copper production for 2018

Zambia is expected to record a positive outlook in copper production for 2018 with policy certainty. Zambia Chamber of Mines Research and Policy Manager Mr. Yewa Kumwenda says a comparison of the 2017 first quarter production and the 2018 first quarter production reveals an upward trend.

“The major mining companies produced 172,676.28 metric tonnes of copper in the first quarter of 2017 compared to 200,338.94 metric tonnes in 2018. If the price of copper and policies are stable, we might exceed last year’s production figure of 800,000 metric tonnes and this will mean more revenue for government.”
