Mopani Copper Mines Scoops First Prize for CSR at ZAPRA 2019 Awards

Mopani Copper Mines Scooped first prize in the Category of Corporate Social Responsibility at the just ended ZAPRA 2019 Awards held on 28th February 2019,in Livingstone at the Chrismar Hotel. The award was collected by the Chamber of Mines on behalf of Mopani. 

Mopani Copper Mine was awarded first prize based on the Mine having had reconstructed the gutted Buseko market as part of their CSR initiative.

The Zambia Public Relations Association (ZAPRA) is the professional body for Communications and Public Relations practitioners in Zambia whose objective is to promote professionalism, knowledge sharing, and ethical conduct among the members.

Mopani Copper Mines  handed over the K1.5 million newly constructed Malela Market in Mufulira District.

The Market had been constructed as a replacement of the gutted Buseko Market.

Apart from the K1.5 million spent on construction the traders that lost goods in the inferno had been given a K 316,000 donation as start-up capital for their businesses.

In July 2018, Buseko Market was gutted destroying property worthy thousands of Kwacha.

As an immediate measure, government stepped in and engaged Mopani Copper Mines to construct a new market at Malela which now accommodates 336 traders.

Chief Executive Officer Chris Vermeulen handed over the facility top Copperbelt Minister Japhen Mwakalombe while a dummy cheque of K 316,000 was handed over to District Commissioner Hildah Kawesha as an empowerment initiative for the marketeers.

Vermeulen said Mopani has placed Corporate Social Responsibility on its priority to ensure traders are supported to help improve their lives.

 Copperbelt Minister Japhen Mwakalombe said Mopani had shown true partnership with government as evidenced from its commitment to contribute to the Country’s economic growth.
