Engage more local suppliers, Musukwa urges mines

Mines and Minerals Development Minister Honorable Richard Musukwa has urged mining firms to restructure their procurement processes to allow for more locals in the mining value chain.

“Government would like to see more local suppliers given opportunities to supply to the mines, employment opportunities are shrinking due to automation, so the only benefit would be locals’ participation in supply of goods and services,” he said.

The minister said when he toured selected mining operations on the Copperbelt that government would not like to see local suppliers being discriminated.
